ASUS Zenbook UX31 Ultrabook Hands-on Review 2/2

Rob from ASUS goes hands-on with the 13.3-inch UX31 Zenbook to demo the accessories that come with it, preview the sound from the B&O speakers, and compare the design to the magnesium ASUS U36SD. Free with the UX31 are a mini-VGA to VGA adapter, a carry case with magnetic latch, and USB to Ethernet adapter. SonicMaster/B&O ICEpower audio is compared to the U36SD ultraportable notebook.

    @Alagathevictor Actually, there are two i5 versions of the UX31 (UX31E-DH52, UX31E-DH53). UX31E-DH72 is the i7 version.

    The sound on the UX31 is terrible, i sit here typing on my 3rd UX31 today. The first two were returned back to the shop due to sound issues and the third will be returned tomorrow for a refund. The speakers are placed under the keyboard and this rattles the keys (CAPS, Enter, TAB etc) causing a dreadful distortion to some peoples voice and other high frequency sound. This appears to be a common issues and i would strongly advise listening to speach at anything above half vol before purchasing.

    @g3ntoshi I see, thanks for the enlightenment, I’m glad I bought UX31E-DH72 then, it’s more fit for the future, and I’m planning to keep this for many years due to the cost..

    @nes0901 A rip off with better hardware. unlike Apple. Asus doesn’t use Last generation processors, and charges at a premium price point to its customers; something Apple does.

    “Overall a really nice design”
    Of course it is – Apple made it.

    I preferred the Brush Aluminum… the shinny Aluminum part where you said is “unique”…. well its pretty much “unique” for a reason…. its hideous looking… way too flashy. Thin and small notebook are meant for good look and stealthiness… this thing has neither…. May i recommend you guys learn from the designer of Toshiba Protege Z835, IT EVEN HAVE A BACKLIT KEYBOARD!!!

    @ZeroWingEx

    What you need to do is stop being a douchebag troll this is one of the best looking ultra books out there at the mo and brushed aluminium works to good effect it just makes everything else look a bit boring

    @Clusterfuck66 Wait till you actually plug in some headphones. Your mind will be blown. I love the audio on this thing. Pandora on full blast is great. Screw “Beats audio”

    @ZeroWingEX The aluminum finish isn’t nearly as obnoxious as you might think it is in person. It’s sleek and sexy enough to grab attention but it won’t blind people

    I just got a micro HDMI to HDMI adapter today and tried plugging this thing into my TV and it wouldn’t put out a picture. What’s the issue?

    I’m looking foward to buy this but I have a huge question. Is the bezel black? I really want an ultrabook but I watch a lot of movies and videos. Bezel is a huge thing for me. It’s the only reason I have not bought the mac book air.

    @BustedController There a different types of HDMI. HDMI 1.3 works on my TV but that’s it. You may want to try buying various ones on Amazon and hopefully you’ll find something that works.
